Mr. Jagdish Chander Gilani

Founder

Founded Associated Management Corporation in 1964. A visionary leader who built India's foremost management consulting and academic publishing firm over six decades.

Shri Jagdish Chander Gilani was a trailblazing educationalist, management consultant, and institution builder whose work fundamentally shaped the landscape of marketing knowledge in India. As the founder of Associated Management Consultants Private Limited and the Indian Journal of Marketing, he laid the intellectual foundations for rigorous, research-driven marketing practice in the country. Launched in 1968, Indian Journal of Marketing became India’s oldest, most reputed, and only monthly marketing publication : a milestone that filled a critical gap in Indian business literature at a time when the discipline was still finding its footing.

At a time when marketing was largely undervalued in India’s business ecosystem,           Mr. Gilani championed its strategic importance. Through the Journal, he gave academics, researchers, and practitioners a credible platform to exchange ideas, publish findings, and influence policy, helping elevate marketing from a peripheral function to a core business discipline. His Management Development Programmes (MDPs), conducted for senior, middle, and first-line managers across India, equipped a generation of business leaders with modern management thinking, directly improving organisational performance across industries.

An alumnus of the Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi, Mr. Gilani held an M.A. in English Literature and an M.B.A. Over three decades, he built an international consulting practice spanning India, USA, Canada, England, and France — advising organisations on strategy, structure, and operations. An accomplished author and eloquent orator, his cross-border expertise brought global best practices in management back to Indian businesses, helping them compete and grow in an evolving economy. His legacy endures through every issue of the Journal and every manager he mentored.
