Oversees all publishing operations and editorial management across AMCPL's eight research journals.
Deepak Sawhney, Managing Director and Publisher, has built AMCPL into one of India's most enduring academic publishing institutions, overseeing a portfolio of eight peer-reviewed journals, a subscriber base of over 5,000 institutions across the country, and an unbroken monthly publication record spanning 25 years.
He brings a formation that is unusual in Indian academic publishing: a dual engineering background, senior leadership experience at IBM and Accenture, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Digital Business from Columbia Business School. That combination of technical rigour, corporate discipline, and digital fluency has shaped the way AMCPL operates. Under his leadership, journals that existed largely in print have achieved indexing in Scopus, ABDC, and UGC-CARE, and the organisation has grown from a single-journal house into a credible multi-journal platform recognised by institutions and researchers across India.
What has defined his tenure is not just growth, but continuity. Academic publishing runs on trust, and trust is built over decades of consistent, principled work. That is the standard Mr. Sawhney inherited from the founders of this institution, and it is the standard he has kept.
PUBLISHING LEADERSHIP
Mr. Sawhney oversees the full publishing operations at AMCPL, from editorial planning to printing, dispatch, and subscriber relations. Since taking charge, he founded seven new peer-reviewed journals, each developed with an eye on indexing quality and long-term institutional relevance. The flagship Indian Journal of Marketing, founded in 1968, remains India's oldest and only monthly journal of marketing and continues to be published without interruption under his watch.
AMCPL's current journal portfolio and indexing credentials:
| Journal | Indexing |
|---|---|
| Indian Journal of Marketing | Scopus • ABDC “C” |
| Indian Journal of Finance | Scopus |
| Prabandhan: Indian Journal of Management | Scopus |
| Arthshastra Indian Journal of Economics & Research | UGC-CARE |
| Indian Journal of Research in Capital Markets | Google Scholar |
| Indian Journal of Computer Science | Google Scholar |
| AMC Indian Journal of Entrepreneurship | Google Scholar |
| AMC Indian Journal of Civil Engineering | Google Scholar |
The subscription base that sustains this portfolio has been built largely through direct institutional relationships rather than aggregator platforms, which has given AMCPL a degree of financial independence that few independent academic publishers in India enjoy. Managing a team of 25 professionals, Mr. Sawhney ensures that operations remain lean without compromising on the standards that have made these journals trusted resources in university libraries, business schools, and research institutions across the country.
AMCPL REALTY SOLUTIONS
In 2020, Mr. Sawhney founded AMCPL Realty Solutions as the organisation’s real estate vertical, focused on residential and commercial property management, rentals, and infrastructure development. Drawing on his engineering background, Mr. Sawhney has personally overseen turnkey construction and fitout projects within the portfolio. The vertical is being expanded into serviced apartments and low-rise commercial spaces.
OTHER VENTURES AND INTERESTS
Mr. Sawhney’s interests extend well beyond publishing and real estate. He has pursued formal training in several fields that sit at the intersection of science, entrepreneurship, and sustainability. He holds certifications in Mushroom Cultivation Technology and Cordyceps Militaris Cultivation from the ICAR Directorate of Mushroom Research in Solan, training in Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS) and Ornamental Fish Farming from ICAR institutes in Udaipur and Bhubaneswar, a certification in Fragrance and Flavour Creation from the Ministry of MSME, and a course in raising capital for business from NIESBUD. These are not casual interests. They reflect a pattern of applied curiosity that has led him to explore agribusiness and nature-integrated hospitality as potential future ventures, each grounded in formal knowledge and a genuine belief in value creation through sustainable enterprises.
